11th ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL
AND
RUSSIAN BAZAAR
As the seasons change, so do the events in the greater Norwich area. On Saturday, October 4 2008the Orthodox Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia will hold its “Annual Fall Festival and Russian Bazaar.”
Three years ago Holy New Martyrs Church relocated from the Norwich Grange building to its countryside spot at 364 Canterbury Turnpike in Norwich. The parish purchased a section of the Tarryk farm. The present building which has been erected on the hill top is the parish center. It is the hope of the parish to embark upon the construction of the church in the next five years.
The Annual Fall Festival of Holy New Martyrs Church offers a wonderful day to relax, eat marvelous ethnic foods, purchase home made baked goods, visit our country store or Russian tea cart and spend a day in the country without leaving the city. The eight acres that presently make up the parish compound will be dotted with various booths and vendors, there will be ethnic music, a gigantic tag sale, a moon walk and various activities for children. While inside the building you can view the progress being made in the decoration of our chapel, visit the book and gift store which offers a wide range of imported hand made items from Russia and Ukraine, as well as Orthodox books, crosses, ikons and much more. The old fashion church fair atmosphere continues with a wonderful, gift basket raffle and a huge silent auction with over 150 items donated from area businesses. Join us in a day of old fashioned fun and just spend the day walking around and visiting what will surely become one of Norwich’s main events.
The Autumn is a time when the earth begins to rest and recover, the weather turns crisp and clear, and of course, the trees are ablaze in color.
