The choir at Holy New Martyrs plays an important role in the life of our parish. In Orthodox churches all services are sung. The Holy New Martyrs Choir sings at all services and liturgies throughout the year, adding to the quality of the liturgical life of the parish. It is an important ministry of the parish as we are all called to serve one another with our time talent and treasure.
Our choir is made up of talented and dedicated singers who come from a variety of musical backgrounds. Some members have been singing in an Orthodox choir since their youth while others only started singing when they joined this choir. All are united to one another by their desire to serve the Lord in song.
The Holy New Martyrs Choir presently rehearses on Friday nights from 7:00-9:00 p.m., and as needed before major feasts. Rehearsals are essential to forming choir unity and developing musically and spiritually. Regular attendance at rehearsals is expected by all members of the choir.
All are welcome to join rehearsals. Regular choir membership is determined by the choir director with the blessing of the parish rector. While previous music or singing experience is helpful, it is not a requirement. Many of our choir's strongest singers have learned "on the job," so to speak. Don't let a lack of musical training keep you from singing praises to God. If you wish to join our choir, and have at least a little knowledge in music, a love to attend services, patience towards other people, and consistency… come and see (and sing!). Welcome One & All!
